The DJ Idea Sharing Podcast started back in 2006 in the early beginnings of the podcast craze. I was invited by Ryan Burger (former owner of Mobile Beat) to bring all my equipment out to Vegas and grab recordings and interviews live at the show. It had never been done before and offered a great opportunity for me to get content. We set up a small studio in our room at the SouthPoint Hotel and actually got over a dozen fantastic episodes including a commitment from Chubby Checker for a interview!
Mobile Beat had just been sold from the original ownership to Ryan Burger and the very first show Ryan would hold was at a brand new property just to the south of the main Vegas strip. The SouthPoint as a shiny new property and Mobile Beat was reinvigorated promising to bring the DJ conference to a new level. Over 1000 attendees packed the house and Chubby Checker gave a concert for all who packed the room! It was a amazing event and as I think back that expo really launched my podcast.
After years of traveling to DJ shows and recording exclusive podcast content I had interviewed with the who’s who of our DJ industry along with some pretty famous guests. My goal was to attend as many industry shows as possible and podcast live capturing all the latest and greatest information on gear, trends and goings-on. We made hundreds of programs and the content hopefully helped all of our listeners? And then came Facebook…..
With the growth and popularity of our DJ Idea Sharing Facebook group I had less and less time to moderate the group and still keep recording podcast episodes. It also become difficult to attend ALL the shows as more and more DJ related events popped up all over. Including my own event, the Lighting Symposium! The podcast just kind of faded away with only some “archive” episodes being released from time to time. I began to believe that the days of my podcast were behind me. And then came the 2020 pandemic…..
Our entire DJ industry was impacted and so many of us were sitting at home with nothing to do to keep our minds occupied. So, I decided to re-start up the podcast and use a new hot technology called ZOOM to get audio for the episodes. And that changed everything! I was able to create content in a way I had never been able to previously and so many interviews were put together and a new hosting page was created for all the back issues. Even my very dear friend Mike Vincent (Professional Voice Over Talent) lended his golden throat to our intro and outro!! BOOM! We are sounding really authentic!
The only thing missing was the live element so after the pandemic I fully intended to hit the road again and make more great memories. BUT…. as fate would have it I ran into health problems with heart disease, a torn shoulder and finally hip replacement! If you can’t walk its very hard to get around at these shows so I kept the podcast as a zoom thing. But, finally with the storm behind me I have achieved a new lease on life with surgery and have made a decision to make this announcement!
I have been invited by Rob Savickis (founder of Mobile Entertainment Expo & Photo Booth Expo) to set up right in the great hall at the entrance of the trade show floor and record for the show. Right back at the SouthPoint where it began for me! It represents the first time in a long time I am “FULL IN” at a expo and it’s a pleasure I feared I might not get again.
